About

Hi, I'm Missy.

I help purpose-driven therapists build sustainable private practices they actually enjoy running! Most therapists don't have a natural knack for business, but I've always enjoyed the business and leadership side of the therapy world.

But let's face it, grad school didn't teach us how to run a business. We weren't taught marketing, how to set fees with confidence, how to implement operational systems or make decision like a CEO.

And even when you know what to do, the fear, self-doubt, perfectionism, and overwhelm can keep you stuck exactly where you are.

I've been there.

I've spent my career helping people navigate life's hardest moments, but I also have something many therapist coaches don't:

A formal business education.

So here is my story....

My Story

I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in the state of INdiana. I also have an MBA from Capella University and an undergrad in Management & Organizational Development from Spring Arbor University.

I am an entreprenuer and love running my own businesses. I own and lead Unboxed Grace Counseling Company where I have a small team of therapists. I also serve women of faith and business through coaching, speaking and teaching under The Mental Health Chick, which is part of this company, Missy Jane Coaching Company.

I say I am a coach, but am I trained? Yes, yes I am. I have a 60 hour certification through Transformation Academy and I have 90 hours of education completed to put towards my certification through the International Coaching Federation.

Even with that background, starting my own practice was one of the most intimidating things I've ever done.

Leaving the security of agency work felt risky.

There were countless decisions to make.

• Insurance or private pay?

• What should I charge?

• Where do I find clients?

• What software do I use?

• How do I market without feeling salesy?

• How do I know if I'm making the right decisions?

There wasn't a clear roadmap or blueprint.

I found the therapy community surprisingly tight-lipped when I asked questions, which was insanely frustrating.

So that's why I've built a roadmap for other therapists.

Today I'm the owner and Clinical Director of a thriving counseling practice, and I've learned that building a successful practice isn't just about checking legal boxes or finding clients.

It's about creating a business that supports your life instead of consuming it.

One that's financially healthy, operationally organized, ethically sound, and aligned with your values.

Why I Do This Work

I've watched incredible therapists stay burned out in agency work because they believed owning a practice was too overwhelming.

I've watched brilliant clinicians question every decision because no one ever taught them how to think like a business owner.

That doesn't have to be your story.

You don't need another guru promising overnight success. You need someone who understands therapists. Someone who understands business.

Someone who understands the emotional weight that comes with entrepreneurship.

That's where I come in.

What Makes My Approach Different

There are plenty of people who offer business coaching but very few are licensed clinicians with a business background.

My coaching combines:

• Real-world private practice experience

• Clinical insight into stress, perfectionism, and decision-making

• MBA-level business strategy

• Practical systems you can actually implement

• Honest conversations about what entrepreneurship really looks like

Because success isn't about hustling harder.

It's about building a practice that fits your values, your personality, your goals, and the life you actually want to live.

My Philosophy

I don't believe every therapist should build the same business. Many coaches want to you to do exactly what they have done, exactly the way they have done it.

But there is a problem with that....

Some therapists want a boutique private-pay practice.

Some want to accept insurance.

Some want a side practice.

Some dream of building a group practice.

None of those goals are "better."

The right practice is the one that supports the life you want to create.

That's why I don't coach from a one-size-fits-all mindset.

What every therapist does need is a plan and an understanding of business principles.

I want to help you build your practice, intentionally.

If you're still here reading this.....

Maybe you're thinking about leaving agency work.

Maybe you've already started your practice but feel like you're figuring everything out the hard way.

Maybe you're tired of piecing together advice from Facebook groups, YouTube videos, and random Google searches.

You don't have to build your practice alone.

I'd love to help you create a business that gives you more freedom, more confidence, and more fulfillment, while allowing you to do the work you were called to do.

Let's build a practice that fits your life, not the other way around.
